Easter traditions

April 20, 2022 at 11:58 pm, No comments

It was believed that on Easter night, an Easter grandmother walks and lays eggs on the windowsill or by the bed. In the customs of Easter, the egg is given special significance, as it was considered a symbol of the origin of life, the resurrection of nature. Equally important are the customs of egg painting and their exchange. Easter eats traditional Easter meals, which vary from region to region. The festive meal began with the egg. They took a painted egg, peeled it, cut it into as many parts as there are people in the house, and divided it to wish them success and health.

The custom of beating eggs is known throughout Lithuania. Mostly men did it. When the opponent's egg was beaten correctly, the beaten one was taken by the one whose egg remained healthy. Egg rolling was also widespread throughout Lithuania. If an egg hit a previously rolled one, the egg owner would pick up both eggs. On the second day of Easter, children and young people went to lay eggs or Easter.  (https://lt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velykos)
